Historical Maproom now open

A new attraction has just arrived at Bygone Times in Eccleston, Chorley in the guise of the UKs largest collection of historical maps. Over 80 framed prints on permanent display and in excess of 800 prints of original historical maps are now on sale for the public to purchase, framed or unframed.
The maps are the culmination of over 40 years of collecting by mapseeker.co.uk founders Paul Line and Christine Cartlidge. The collection was originally based in Willenhall, Birmingham but has recently had to relocate due to refurbishment works, Mr Paul Line approached several venues to re home the collection including Warwick Castle but decided that Bygone Times would be the ideal location for the collection as the maps would fit in along side the antiques and collectables within Bygone Times and would give the public an ideal opportunity to view and purchase maps from the largest and most diverse collection in the country. The collection consists of a variety of different maps spanning some 600 years of cartography including coastal surveys, John Speed maps, Moule County maps, early town plans and early world maps.
As well as the opportunity to purchase maps the display also acts as a historical, educational exhibition for any individual or group to view, charting the changes and different styles of cartography dating from 1523 – 1898.
The exhibition was opened on Sunday 7th December 2008 by TV presenter, author and paranormal investigator Jason Karl. The Map gallery is now fully stocked with maps of all kinds for the public to purchase.
A great Christmas gift idea.
